Kindle up in flames?

Posted October 24 2011

Amazon is set to start selling it's new Kindle Fire tablet next month, reportedly for as little as $199 (US). And of course, rumours are abundant as to the impact it will have on other tablet PCs in the market. While the price is very competitive, at iPadHUT.co.uk we're not really sold. But it's a hard sell to those already knowing and loving the iPad. And one has to take into account that the new Kindle Fire has a smaller screen, lacks a camera, microphone or a the ability to connect to a 3G wireless network. All that aside, rumours are circulating that the Kindle Fire will top Apple's debut tablet sales record in its first quarter. Perhaps because thanks to the iPad and iPad 2, the tablet PC market was set alight and created in the first place.

Bloomberg recently published an article suggesting the pricing is at a market-grabbing low that may not be profitable or sustainable. But Amazon's hope for investor-pleasing-dollars rests in the sale of content like music & books.

With the launch of the iPhone 4S and its surprising price, along with the Kindle Fire's cheap price, perhaps it's likely that the next generation of iPad will not only be full of great apple-firsts, but also positioned at a nice and affordable price.
