Why isn’t there an Apple iPad Screen Protector

Posted July 21 2011

Screen protectors were one of the top selling iPhone accessories.  However, you won’t see screen protector iPad accessories – or even for iPod or iPhone anymore!  Apple has finally called it quits on their screen protector accessories.

There is no formally-given reason as to why Apple isn’t making the screen protectors anymore.  However, it probably has something to do with how many people complained about air bubbles forming while they put on the accessory.  There were a lot of returns of these products in the Apple stores.  Because bubbles were an issue even on the smaller screens of iPod and iPhone, we can bet that iPad screen protectors would cause an even larger issue. However, screen protectors are still really crucial to your iPad.  They keep the screen from getting dirty with your oily fingers and help prevent against scratches.  Luckily, there are many third-party companies which are making iPad screen protectors.

If you are worried about bubbles, you shouldn’t stress too much.  By exercising your patience and laying down the iPad screen protector bit by bit while you slide a credit card over the film, you can eliminate the bubbles.  There are tons of videos demonstrating this on YouTube.  There are even some iPad screen protectors which claim to be bubble-proof.  Don’t believe this though!  Any screen protector which will stick is going to come with the risk of bubbles.

When you are looking into iPad screen protectors, you may want to consider spending the extra few bucks to get ones which double as iPad accessories.  A screen protector could turn your iPad into a mirror when turned off, give you privacy, or make it easier to use in the sun with antiglare features.
